HVAC Energy Efficiency Upgrades: Save Money and Protect the Environment

At R & C Heating and Air, we’re committed to helping you achieve a more energy-efficient home while keeping your heating and cooling costs low. With the rising cost of energy, upgrading your HVAC system to be more energy-efficient is a smart investment that pays off in both comfort and savings. Our family-owned business offers a variety of energy-efficient HVAC upgrades designed to improve your system’s performance, reduce your carbon footprint, and save you money year after year.

Why Choose Energy Efficiency Upgrades?

  • Lower Energy Bills: Energy-efficient HVAC systems use less power to operate, which means you can expect significant savings on your monthly energy bills.

  • Enhanced Comfort: Energy-efficient upgrades help maintain a consistent and comfortable temperature throughout your home, preventing hot and cold spots.

  • Environmental Impact: By upgrading to an energy-efficient system, you’ll be reducing your household’s carbon footprint, helping to protect the planet for future generations.

  • Long-Term Savings: While energy-efficient systems might have a higher upfront cost, they provide long-term savings through lower energy consumption and fewer repairs.

  • Increased Property Value: Energy-efficient homes are highly attractive to homebuyers, and these upgrades can increase your property’s resale value.

Our HVAC Energy Efficiency Upgrades

We offer a variety of upgrades designed to improve the energy efficiency of your HVAC system. Here are some of the most common energy-saving solutions we provide:

  1. High-Efficiency Air Conditioners and Furnaces
Upgrade your old, inefficient system to a new high-efficiency air conditioner or furnace. Modern units use advanced technology to provide superior comfort while consuming less energy. This upgrade can dramatically reduce your energy bills and improve system reliability.

  2. Smart Thermostats
A smart thermostat allows you to control your home’s temperature remotely, set schedules, and optimize energy use. These systems learn your habits and adjust automatically, ensuring that your HVAC system isn’t running when you don’t need it, which results in savings on your utility bills.

  3. Variable Speed and Zoned HVAC Systems
Zoned HVAC systems allow you to control the temperature in different areas of your home independently, ensuring that your system only uses energy to heat or cool areas that need it. Combined with variable-speed technology, these systems adjust their output to match your needs, saving energy and providing more consistent comfort.

  4. Duct Sealing and Insulation
Leaky ducts and poor insulation can lead to significant energy loss. We can inspect your ductwork for leaks, repair any issues, and add insulation to reduce heat transfer. Properly sealed and insulated ducts help your system work more efficiently, improving comfort and saving energy.

  5. Upgraded Insulation
Proper insulation is a key component of an energy-efficient home. If your home is under-insulated, you may be losing heat in the winter and cool air in the summer. We offer insulation upgrades that help regulate indoor temperatures, making it easier for your HVAC system to maintain the desired comfort level.

  6. Air Purifiers and Dehumidifiers
Improving indoor air quality can make your HVAC system run more efficiently. By adding air purifiers or dehumidifiers to your HVAC system, you reduce strain on the system while also improving the quality of the air you breathe. Cleaner air and a more efficient system go hand-in-hand!

  7. Energy-Efficient Ductwork
If your existing ductwork is outdated, replacing it with energy-efficient materials can reduce airflow resistance and improve overall system efficiency. Energy-efficient ductwork ensures your system uses less energy to deliver air to every room in your home.

Benefits of HVAC Energy Efficiency Upgrades

  • Reduced Utility Bills: Lowering your energy consumption can reduce your monthly heating and cooling costs by up to 30%, depending on the upgrades you choose.

  • Improved Comfort: With energy-efficient systems, you’ll notice more consistent temperatures, less humidity, and fewer drafts, leading to better comfort year-round.

  • Fewer Repairs: New, energy-efficient systems are designed to work with fewer breakdowns and repairs, saving you money on maintenance.

  • Longer System Life: Energy-efficient systems experience less strain, helping them last longer than traditional systems. This means fewer replacements and a better return on your investment.

  • Rebates and Incentives: Many energy-efficient upgrades qualify for rebates, tax credits, or incentives. We can help you navigate available programs that may help reduce your upfront costs.

FAQs

We get a lot of questions every day from our customers. We have collected the ones that pop up most frequently, below.

If you can't find what you are looking for, reach out to us and we would love to answer your questions.

Why should I choose R & C Heating and Air for my services?

We are a small, family-owned business that stands behind our work and gives excellent customer service. We take the time to evaluate the entire system to ensure that it is working most efficiently and that it is maximizing its airflow. Sometimes a little tweak can make a large impact. Since we are a small company, we can give more personalized service. We have over 25 years of experience in working with residential home customers. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, workmanship and work ethic. We do not upsell and we are trustworthy.

What are the advantages to convert from a traditional gas/electric system to a heat pump system (all electric system)?

The advantages of switching to a Heat Pump System are energy efficiency, more gradual air distribution, environmentally friendly, quieter and savings with rebates/tax credits. Also, we live in an area where we have mild winters and hot summers, so heat pumps are very efficient for California weather because they work with technology that moves air instead of creating it like traditional combustion systems and air conditioners.

What is the most reliable HVAC unit brand?

Brand recommendations are based on the customers preferences and budget. Nowadays a lot of the different brands share the same exact parts (Copeland Compressors, Honeywell Relays, Electrical Parts, Contactors, Control Boards, etc.). The bottom line is that things are not made like they were 30 years ago with any of the brands.

If I replace my HVAC system will my new unit run all the time like my current one?

No, it will not. New ECM motors and variable speed motors are more efficient than traditional PSC motors (constant torque). They adjust better to the temperature demands in the house. Sizing the unit appropriately to the size of the home will also help if the unit is undersized or oversized.

Why does my unit makes noise when the unit is within the living space, i.e., closet, etc.?

Traditional units tend to make more noise. New ECM motors and variable speed motors are much quieter and run better than traditional motors.

Why do some parts of the house take longer than others to heat or cool; or why isn’t one room getting air or why it doesn’t heat or cool like the rest of the house?

Conventional systems (combustion) combined without an adequate thermostat location tends to cool or heat some areas faster than others. Heat pump systems are more gradual and tend to distribute the air more evenly avoiding puddles of air. Jump ducts help to solve this problem and evaluating your return size area and location.

How do I save on my utility bill?

Savings are always tied to usage. The trick is to be smart with usage. Using a smart thermostat helps with this. Trying to maintain a more consistent temperature in your home will save you energy. During extreme weather if you turn your system off while you are not home, then when you come home and turn it on, it will run for a long time to catch up. Oftentimes this coincides with the most costly energy usage times of the day.
